Spring is an excellent opportunity to create beautiful and simple craft projects on your own, or with children.
For those of you with cabin fever, creating spring-themed art and craft projects is an excellent solution. Not only is there an opportunity to be creative using mixed media techniques, but it is also an opportunity to create greeting cards for special people in your life.
Materials:
- Cardstock, white and pastel
- Glue sticks
- Floral stickers
- Quotations or words defined stickers
- Glitter gel pens
- Alpha stickers
- Floral brads
- Hold punch
- Corner punch (lace or floral)
- Bone folder
- Black ultra-fine sharpie
- Ruler
- Scissors or paper cutter
Instructions:
- Fold a piece of pastel colored cardstock in half. Create a sharp crease using the bone folder. Position the card so it is either opening to the left, or opening upward. Either way is fine for this project.
- Measure a piece of white cardstock so it is one inch smaller than the front of the folded card all the way around. Punch the corners using the corner punch, and the hole punch. Be sure not to punch the hole too close to the edge or it will tear. Add the floral brads to each corner.
- Affix the white cardstock; ensuring the glue is brought right to the edges to prevent peeling, to the front of the card in its center. Repeat this step on the inside of the card. If the brads are creating too much bulk inside the card than desired, replace them with stickers.
- Add quotations or words defined stickers so it is centered on the front of the card. Using the alpha stickers, spell out the word “SPRING” on the bottom of the white cardstock on the front of the card.
- Use the black ultra-fine sharpie to write the word “welcome” above the word “spring.” Layer floral stickers over the quotations or words defined stickers.
- Embellish the edges of the front and inside of the card using the glitter gel pens. This can be anything from doodles to a floral vine.
- Write a greeting on the inside of the card using either the black ultra-fine sharpie or the glitter gel pens (or both!).
Variations:
- Use a paper doily, rather than a piece of white cardstock on the front of the card.
- Skip the brads, and use all stickers on the corners of the pieces of white cardstock.
- Trace along the outside of the word "sping" on the front of the card using the glitter gel pens.
